In the early 1960s, Millard was a rapidly growing community.  Western Electric built a new factory on the outskirts of Millard and the population was growing quickly.  There was only one church serving the city at the time.  The National Council of Churches gave permission for the Presbyterian Church gather potential members and establish a new church.  The first worship service was conducted on Palm Sunday, April 6th, 1963 in the gymnasium of Millard’s Central Elementary School.  On December 1st, 1963 Hope Presbyterian Church was officially chartered with 125 members.

Hope Presbyterian Church members met in a number of locations in its early days including a nearby shopping center, a local cottage, the auditorium of the Western Electric Plant, and the gymnasium of Sandoz Elementary School.  Financing was secured in 1969 to construct a building for the church which quickly got underway.  The first services in the new building at 140th and Q Street were conducted on Christmas Eve 1970.

The church continued to grow membership and desired to enhance the church’s role in the community and expand its outreach program.  It was decided in 1998 to pursue the development of a new building that would support the continued growth and community service of the congregation.  In August of 1999, land was purchased for the current location of the church at 159th and Q.  The new building was officially occupied on February 26th, 2006.
